N0, but I went there it is kinda fun, but you must be very open minded, and if you expect all the naked people to have hot model bodies, your kidding yourself, people range from all ages(mostly older, and all sizes).

The beach kinda sucks, but still goodtimes!

Ok, this topic is surrounded by confusion. For the longest time travel to neighboring countries (mexico, canada, and some islands) did not require a passport. Homeland Security proposed changing this effective Jan 1st of 2006. After much uproar the date was extended and is now set at the end of this year.

If you are going on a cruise, you could ask them or ask your hotel as well.

The laws about re-entering the U.S. will change effective December 31, 2006, so having a passport is the best idea, if you have the time to get one.

I am been in this country for vacations five times,but last time was really bad.This year will be the last one you could enter to the country with a birth certificate. But last year I went to visit this country and the aduana guys do not treat me well. I went with my husband and my litter son. My husban is withe and my boy is like the Cinnamon color. They stop us in the airport because they thought that our birth certificates were fake. They start asking my six year boy if my husband was his real-father. They treat us like if we were kidnapping our own son. It was a really bad experience. However the experience in the hotel, the expeditions and people is great. So I recommended that if you can make the arrangements to have a passport.

not this year!! It starts in 2007, we JUST BOOKED our vacation to the Dominican Republic, and they said this year you need a certified birth certificate (not the orginal from the hsptl) and a ID you are good to go!!

i would get one anyway. you don't want to be held up or hasseled by customs. plus, if you need one next year, might as well get one now. there will be an insanely long wait for a passport if everyone tries to apply for one at one time. not to mention a passport makes for a good id if you ever need to apply for a job or whatever.
While it is not necessary, it is highly recommended that you have a passport. Go to the link below from the U. S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic regarding this issue.

I'm not sure if I should go ahead and purchase, or if it is likely to go down more. And I have searched pretty much every airfare search site and also gone directly to each airline's official site and that was the best price I found with a decent flight schedule (Jet Blue was cheaper, but terrible flight times)

That is a good fare. I just looked at over 231 fares from all the major carriers and only got 473 so i would say your super sleuthing is paying off! Have fun in the DR, i want to climb Pico Duarte when i get there next year!

I just returned from Punta Cana.did a lot of research on fares before i booked.got direct flights both ways on American Airlines from JFK (NYC) for $475..sounds like the rate you listed is a good deal. I don't think the price will drop by the time you are looking to go.
